Dobson Healthcare was created because there was a need...

...there were too many high level patients that could not go home.

Jami Dobson, the President of Dobson Health Care, graduated from the University of Detroit, Mercy with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  She was working in a Critical Care Unit and like many of us she also was working a 2nd job as a home health care nurse on some of her weekends off.  She noted that the national home health care company she was working for did not concentrate on the potential high level home health care clients such ventilator dependent, IV (many with medications) and others.  They did not seem interested in these types of patients or they felt they could not be cared for at home so they were forced to remain hospitalized or in other institutions. This needed to change.

Through a lot of research and speaking to many in the health care field including physicians, nurses, respiratory and insurance agencies Jami was granted a trial period for a ventilator dependent quadriplegic.  So in 1988, Dobson Healthcare was born.  They started with one office in East Lansing (only serving Ingham County) and only one patient who was that ventilator dependent quadriplegic.

Since 1988 they have grown.  Currently Dobson has three (3) regional offices (Lansing, Bay City and West Branch) serving 26 counties in Lower Michigan.  Since 1988, hundreds of high quality professionals have worked for and continue to service clients with the utmost qualitative care throughout the counties they service.

Why has Dobson Healthcare grown? Basically two reasons:

1. A focus and reputation of QUALITY.

• Quality is critical to obtaining and maintaining their clients.  Dobson takes pride in providing this high level of care that is tailored to each individual client's needs.

2. Independently owned and operated.

• The fact they are independently owned and operated allows them to respond quickly to a situation and resolve it.  No board of directors, no shareholders; only a dedicated group of individuals led by Jami Dobson to address client, business and staffing needs.

Dobson is dedicated to allowing the patient to remain in their home, regardless of the level of care required within reason.  This provides the patient with Dignity, Privacy and the Peace that being in ones home can only give.  That is a HUGE part of the reason they got into the business and the reason they are still here and continue to grow.
